7th Graders Are Wild. The Mariana Trench Is Awesome. 🌊

Hello Teachers,

So… I’m teaching 7th grade this year. Here are some of my thoughts on that topic.

I also teach 11th grade, but it doesn’t come close to the mayhem of middle school.

I’ve learned that no matter how “in control” I feel with my middle schoolers, something always goes awry.

On another note, I'd say middle schoolers (and perhaps upper elementary school students) are the kings (and queens) of imaginative storytelling. High schoolers often hold back when writing about aliens, ninjas, or yetis. Middle schoolers don't hold back on these topics. They are all in, bruh.

One topic that captures my middle schoolers’ imagination (and mine)is the Mariana Trench, home to the deepest known point in Earth’s oceans.

It’s dark, nearly impossible to explore, and full of mysteries. Scientists are still discovering new species in its depths.

I'm telling you, bruh--a sea monster is going to be discovered there eventually. You heard it here first!

Anyway, here is a writing prompt on the Mariana Trench.
